SH, obligatory application of 3D BIM technique to the design of apartment houses worth 50 billion won or more

The Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH Corporation) announced on the 21st that it has prepared 'BIM Application Guidelines' to induce the spread of construction information modeling (BIM).

BIM is a technology that integrates all information generated through the entire life cycle of a building based on a 3D information model and utilizes it for design and construction. It helps to perform integrated planning, design, construction, maintenance, etc. of buildings that are difficult with existing 2D drawings.

As the core of smart construction technology, it is being introduced not only in Korea but also in major countries around the world, such as the United States, United Kingdom, and Singapore.

According to the guideline, SH Corporation plans to apply BIM as a mandatory application to the design of apartments with a total construction cost of 50 billion won or more, which will be implemented from next year.

LH introduces BIM to all apartment designs by 2024

LH (Korea Land and Housing Corporation) is expanding the volume of BIM design, a smart building technology. It plans to introduce BIM design to all apartment houses by 2024 for innovative growth in the construction industry.

BIM is a three-dimensional modeling that integrates and manages architectural information such as design, quantity, materials, and prices. Visualization and automation of the entire construction process is possible. Changes in material and quantity according to design changes are also automatically set.

LH applied BIM to the design of apartment houses for a total of 65,000 households until last year. It plans to apply BIM to 30 blocks (27,356 households) this year with the aim of introducing BIM to all new apartment designs by 2024. It is planned to apply BIM to not only apartment houses but also modular houses and general buildings.

Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, intensive development of smart construction engineering... Changes the paradigm

'Construction engineering development plan' prepared... Securing global competitiveness
Removal of industrial partitions Fostering construction ENG convergence and integrated industries… Established a comprehensive construction engineering business
Expanding pilot projects such as 'Construction Responsible CM' and 'Technical Bidding'
Introducing various measures such as reorganization of the ordering system, education system, and enhancement of technology.

The government has made major changes such as converging construction technology and ICT, preparing a system for strengthening global competitiveness such as intensive fostering of smart construction engineering and expanding pilot projects.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced at the '113th State Pending Review and Coordination Conference' presided over by the Prime Minister on the 3rd, the government has discussed a paradigm shift in the construction engineering industry to secure global competitiveness in the rapidly changing future construction market.

Construction engineering refers to managing the entire construction process including planning and design to operation management in connection with construction. Developed countries are already rapidly transitioning to high value-added industries that focus on the integration of the entire process, such as design and construction, beyond simple construction, while the domestic market remains focused on construction and is inadequate to enter the integrated field.

'Digital construction' such as construction industry, BIM, drone, AR, etc. is essential

In the future, digital technology and smart construction are expected to determine the success or failure of the construction industry.

Recently, the domestic construction industry is also moving to introduce AI, big data, and AR to the site, but it is still in the beginning level. As a result, there is an urgent need for smart and digitalization of the entire construction industry.

To this end, it is pointed out that digital transformation of construction companies is a priority. This calls for the active use of building digital model technology (BIM), cloud, Internet of Things, advanced analysis of data (artificial intelligence, etc., augmented reality, virtual reality, modulator, 3D printing, robotics, intelligent construction equipment, unmanned aircraft, etc. for construction sites or design process.

Early realization of smart construction… Build'BIM Control Tower'

Prominent establishment in the first half of the year in construction… Spread to the private sector after expanding the application of the public.

The first public 'BIM Center' (tentative name) in Korea will be launched in the first half of this year.

For the early realization of smart construction, it is expected to act as an outpost to spread to private construction sites while rushing to make mandatory application of BIM (Construction Information Modeling) to national projects.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Institute of Construction Technology on the 2nd, a plan to install and operate a BIM center at a national research institute is being promoted to spread BIM, called a game changer, to public projects that will change the old production system of the construction industry.

Unlike CAD, which supports two-dimensional (2D) design drawings, BIM implemented in 3D is widely used throughout the life cycle of facilities such as shortening the design and construction period, improving construction quality, and utilizing maintenance.

In October 2018, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced the'Smart Construction Technology Roadmap', an action plan aimed at incorporating high-tech technologies into construction sites, and pointed to BIM as its core technology. To this end, BIM is mandated for road projects over 50 billion won this year, and a schedule to fully introduce BIM in 2025 has also been released.
